Motty’s career as a photojournalist began in his place of birth, Israel. While living in Israel, Motty worked for a variety of newspapers and magazines including Hadashot, Maariv, Haretz, and The Jerusalem Post.
In 1989, Motty uprooted his family to Canada. During this time, while becoming familiarized with his new surroundings and the resultant self-changes, Motty continued to work as a documentary and fine art photographer.
As a photographer and an artist, Motty has the unique capability of capturing the raw and genuine emotions within ordinary, every-day life moments. As part of his artistic developmental journey, Motty places emphasis on exploring the impact of time and the evolution of culture throughout the world. He is particularly drawn to the cultural changes and diversity surrounding him, including those linked to his own background. The reoccurring theme across all of his work is the expression of spontaneity and the freedom to capture real-life moments. The foundation of this approach is based on Motty’s belief that there is beauty and uniqueness in every situation and life-form.
Motty’s work has been published in The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, NowMagazine, Flare Magazine, Jerusalem Post, Maariv, Hadashot, and in Sacred Balance by David Suzuki.
Additionally, Motty has worked with different agencies such as Actra, The Toronto International Film Festival, The Hugh MacMillan Rehabilitation Centre.

“Using a small camera, available light and capturing a sense of the fleeting and the candid, Motty’s photographic style is influenced by his many years experience as a photojournalist. He finds no need to stage, force or manufacture situations when the richness of the real experience is so apparent to his sensitive and intuitive eye. The result is that he produces uncontrived images of people that are expressive and revealing of their emotions and relationships”

Motty’s photography art have been exhibited at festivals and galleries throughout Canada, USA, and Israel, and is included in several collections such as:

Artist Statement

As a photographer and artist, I always strive to capture special moments within ordinary events. As part of my artistic development journey, I have found myself time and again focuses on exploring the impact of time and culture changes all over the world. I’m attracted to social, cultural, and diversity issues around me, and in this regard, I truly believe a picture can speak a thousand words.

Henri Cartier-Bresson, W. Eugene Smith, and Bruce Davidson are a few of the photographers whose work has inspired me. Similarly, I understood that my own drive comes from my ability to capture unplanned moments and genuinely candid life experiences that can never be staged. The theme across all of my work has always been the spontaneity and the freedom to capture real-life moments. The foundation of this approach is based on my belief that there is beauty and uniqueness in every situation and life-form.

The result is uncontrived images of people, and nature that are expressive and revealing of their emotions and relationships”

Currently I am working on two new project:

Dreamland-In the Footsteps of Mark Twain in the Holy Land – explores how time and countless struggles have impacted the places he visited during the nineteenth century. The project documents the transformation and allure of each of the historic landmarks he visited during his well-documented journey, while uncovering the impact and aftermath of the historic changes that have occurred since then.
I am Cuba – looks at lifestyle differences caused by the “changing of the guards” in Cuba.
